The BMC Global Services leadership philosophy is driven by the latest developments in a variety of areas which are analysed in our research laboratories at our Academy.

Strategy development

In addition to our own research we monitor the latest research in strategy from the top establishments to ensure we use the latest, most appropriate methods in our consulting projects.

Leadership and team Development

Due to the huge importance placed on performance in all levels of sport, leaders are expected to perform under huge pressure. As a result the sports environment is a great learning laboratory to identify key leadership traits, and how these may be developed in leaders from other environments such as business. At our state of the art academy, we have developed our own laboratory to explore and investigate how we can maximise the development of our clients.

Sport is used as a way of highlighting leadership issues and traits in real life situations and also gives the opportunity for the individual to step into those situations. A lot can be learnt from sports where decisions must be made, people can become legends, and careers ruined – all within a split-second. We can all shout at the television but what would you really do in those situations? We may fare better, we may come out worse but whatever the result, it is a real test of leadership and character.

Research has shown that this experiential style of learning can be much more effective than pure traditional methods for a range of people. Our workshops are also a fantastic opportunity for individuals to try a sport that they may have never considered before in a safe environment.

Personal Development

The key to leadership development is developing the individual as a person. This is important as leadership skills are considered ‘soft’ and as such cannot be taught simply like a rule or mathematical equation. The use of experiential learning and activities throughout our programmes brings about an understanding and development that more traditionally taught programmes claim but do not achieve. Activities include debates, case-based problem solving, team work and games, presentations, practical exercises, sport and traditional learning. Personal behaviours and attributes are key elements of an individuals’ attitude and contribute to the potential performance the individual can produce. It is essential that the individual is in the correct ‘conditioning’ in order to achieve high performance in their chosen role and field. This mindset must be applied no matter what the environment; on the sports field or in the office. Those who excel in personal development and performing often go on to become good leaders according to research.
